On 15, February 1926, the First Contract Airmail Flight was flown by the Ford Motor Co. between Detroit & Cleveland / Detroit & Chicago.

The monoplane used was an ultra-modern, all metal, Ford Stout. Henry Ford, himself received the very first airmail pouch from assistant Postmaster General, W. Irving Glover.

The payload rate at the time was nearly 7¢ per ounce.

The year, 1976 was recognized by the United States Senate as the Golden Anniversary of the U.S. Commercial Aviation. These envelopes were actually flown on the exact fifty-year date, of the first such flight.
