In the same year ( 1933 ) that Hitler became Chancellor of Germany, Holland
issued its first ever triangular shaped postage stamp. This piece commemorated
the work of Anthony Herman Gerard Fokker
( 1890 - 1939 ), aircraft designer
and manufacturer, who revolutionized aerial warfare by synchronizing a
front-mounted machine gun to fire through the propeller of a plane.
Fokker built his first factory in Germany, where he manufactured pursuit
planes during World War I. It was in 1933 that Hitler's Nazis accused the
Dutchman, Marinus van der Lubbe, of burning the Riechstag in Berlin, he is
tried and murdered by the Nazis. Was this stamp a prediction of things to come
' The German Luftwaffe. ' This stamp is offered in mint condition.
