Here is a great mint postage stamp from a country that no longer exists,
the Gilbert & Ellice Islands ( formerly a British Colony until it split in 1976 ),
tucked far away in the South Pacific ( northeast of Australia ). The 1/2 penny
stamp features a young portrait of Queen Elizabeth II ( just 3 years after
ascending to the throne ) staring straight into the face
of a Great Frigate Bird.
