Cooperstown ( named for and settled by William Cooper, judge and father of
author James Fenimore Cooper, in the 1780's ), New York,
is the home of National Baseball Hall of Fame and the known
site of Abner Doubleday's invention of the game of baseball.
Featured here, is a group of checks from the First National Bank of
Cooperstown, with a lovely 'leatherstocking' vignette, showing a hunter with
long rifle and man's best friend, his faithful dog. All of these checks are from
a period just after World War I and almost exactly at the
100th Anniversary of Abner Doubleday's birth.
