There was a time when Pan American World Airways, Inc. was the absolute
king in air travel. In the United States airplanes were initially used to carry
airmail and passenger service was not introduced until April 4, 1927, with a
flight from Boston to New York City. International service was proposed
the very same year, when Pan American Airways was incorporated by a
former war pilot named Juan Terry Trippe. He obtained a contract to fly
regular service between Key West, Florida and Havana, Cuba. His first
flight was in October 1927. By 1929 the airline had established a
12,000-mile ( 19,000 kilometer ) route. Its first trans-Pacific flight
with the famous 'China Clipper' was in 1936.

Here is a magnificent, partially engraved genuine stock certificate of this
pioneer in passenger transportation. The classic ABN ( American Bank Note
Company ) printed share features a stunning vignette ( picture ); two well
bodied fellows hold the two views of the world all capped by the eagle.
A printed signature of the founder and president, J.T.Trippe appears in the
lower right, each is valued at 100 shares and are available in two different
colors ( blue & red ). All are in extremely fine to virtually untouched condition.
