According to Matthew ( 2:1 thru 12 ) three Kings from the East followed a miraculous guiding star to Bethlehem, where they paid homage with gifts ( gold and frankincense and myrrh ) to the baby Jesus. These three 'Magi'( singular Magnus ) are thought to have been; Bithisarea of Arabia, Melichior of Persia and Azes of India.

Here is a small base metal coin attributed to Azes, who, technically was an Indo - Scythian ( modern day Pakistan / Afghanistan ). He ruled from about 35 B.C.E. to approximately the year 8 after Jesus Christ.

As the horse was highly revered by these people ( many warriors were often buried with their horses ), the obverse features the King atop his favorite creature and the reverse depicts a design with what appears to be Hebrew letters ( Karosti, a derivative of Aramaic ).
